YouTube is the latest part of Google to be hit with layoffs

  • YouTube, a part of Google, is undergoing job cuts on the business side of the platform.
  • Chief Business Officer Mary Ellen Coe internally announced the news, affecting areas like business operations, partnerships, and advertising.
  • These layoffs follow a trend within Google, with over 1,000 people laid off last week, particularly impacting the advertising division.

Does anyone have an idea why all those tech layoffs are happening? The whole week has been news about stuff like that

My guess is economic hardship is leading to cuts (and its usually decisions that were made prior to the holidays that get deferred to January). Ultimately these cuts lead to an increase in their share price, so they are doing this to benefit their shareholders.
